Ch27 All
Colt appeared as his werewolf, a large brown one with sharp teeth that could tear us apart so easily. It was terrifying.
I breathed hard.
Amy stepped in front of me as we faced the Alpha. There was no telling what he would do.
We were standing in some sort of clearing with no where to hide, not that it would have done much good. I had to fight my human instinct with the knowledge of what I knew about werewolves.
My head was pounding and it was difficult to see as blood continued to drip down my face.
Glowing amber eyes moved to me. I was not strong enough to stop any attack that was probably about to take place. I would not be able to protect myself, much less any one else.
I had gotten us into this mess and for that we would both suffer. Possible death.
But even in an obvious peril situation I could not stop myself from rolling my shoulder slightly even though it hurt more than I would ever admit. I lifted my chin, defiant.
It wasn’t in me to back down, even when defeat was guaranteed. Even the odds were stacked up against me.
The tense silence was broken when Colt growled, baring his teeth at us with the ferocity of a wild animal.
I knew had a better chance in my werewolf form but I had no idea if I could even shift in the state I was.
There was only one way to find out. I closed my eyes and breathed deep. Nothing.
“You will scar for what you’ve done today,” Colt’s voice caught me by surprise.
He had transformed into his human form. He obviously didn’t believe for a second we were dangerous enough to stay in his wolf form.
“I will break you,” he vowed in a low growl. “And I will bask in every agonizing moment of your suffering.”
His words vibrated through me, making me tremble.
I gritted my teeth as I moved closer. I had never done myself any favors and I still had not evidently learned my lesson because instead of cowering in fear I stood tall refusing to falter under his threatening glare.
“Not without a fight,” I swore.
Amy moved to stand beside me as we faced Colt.
“If your bloodline wasn’t so important you would already be dead,” he stated. “However, this one is disposable.”
I shuffled in front of Amy refusing to allow any harm to come to her. We had been through a lot together in a short amount of time which had brought us closer in a way that was difficult to explain.
The sound of rustling behind us made me freeze before I turned to see my brothers appear.
“Security alerted us to a breach,” Marshall murmured, taking in the scene with a deep frown.
“Your sister caused the crash. She and her friend tried to escape.”
Marshall looked me up and down. “You are to breed with her not kill her. She is far too important.” He almost showed concern, which was laughable.
I didn’t get why I was so important to all of them.
“Then perhaps you need to explain that to her,” Colt snapped back angrily.
“Maybe it will be safer if we have both of them delivered to your pack safely,” Marshall stated.
Colt shook his head. “I’ll take them back. This time I will ensure they are not able to try and escape.”
There was no hope for escape. We were screwed.
I bit my lip to try and fight back the sting of tears. We had gone through so much and we were back where we started.
I felt defeated. Injured and struggling to resign myself to my fate. I closed my eyes for a second to take a deep breath. Not only had I failed Amy, I had failed Maverick as well. I opened my eyes staring at Colt who was in turn glaring at me.
It was Colt who stiffened first and then both my brothers. I frowned.
What was going on?
The sight of Maverick stepping into the clearing was almost dream like. It felt too unreal to be true. His eyes on Colt before his gaze met mine. My heart soared. He frowned, his eyes began to glow as his jaw tensed. I could feel the heat of his gaze as it swept over my wounds.
I blinked, unable to believe what I was seeing. For a moment I truly believed I was so injured I was hallucinating. His presence, unreal. My throat stung and I fought not to tear up.
Beside him was Sebastian and then Kane appeared on. Why was Kane here? For a moment I thought I was hallucinating.
“It seems the cavalry has arrived,” Colt remarked. He smiled, an evil one when I heard the rustle behind him. Out of the shadows werewolves began to step into the light growling deeply.
As if response werewolves began to appear behind Maverick, growling in response to the enemy.
“I want what is rightly mine,” Maverick stated.
He looked so fierce in that moment. Eyes glittering with anger and vengeance. My heart ached for him.
“You see that’s where you’re wrong,” Colt responded. “She was mine before she even met you.”
I shook my head. I would never be anybody else’s other Maverick’s. He owned me, my heart, my all.
“She is my mate. Your greed cannot change that.”
Colt pressed his mouth into a tight line, his nostrils flared. “I will no argue with you. She is mine to do with what I want.”
They glared at each other. Amber eyes glowing as they sized each other up.
“After I kill you, I’ll take what belongs to me.” Maverick said. His gaze to flickered to me for a brief moment.
Colt scoffed. “We shall see.” His eyes gleamed with a challenge.
A sound behind me made me turn to see Dominque and Marshall start to retreat slowly.
“I wouldn’t do that if I was you,” Kane warned my brothers with a narrowed gaze.
It was the sound of growling in the shadow of the line of trees made my brothers halted.
“If you move, they will kill you.” Kane looked every inch of the hardened ruthless Alpha.
I still had no idea why he was here, with Maverick.
Sebastian stood, his eyes on Colt as Maverick moved closer. Kane folded his arms, his attention completely on my brothers.
I didn’t want this to happen. I didn’t want Maverick to fight Colt to save him. Naively I had believed I would be able to save myself but I had been wrong. So wrong. I had the wounds to reinforce it. In a vicious world of werewolves I had failed. Swallowing my emotions I held myself still, trying my best not to show the pain I was in. Amy stood beside me.
There was nothing more I could do. I had tried to stop this from happening and I could do nothing more than watch along with everyone else as Colt and Maverick began to circle each other.
My mistake could cost me everything. Maverick.
Amy grabbed my hand as I trembled. I looked to her but her eyes were fixed on Maverick.
I took a deep painful breath, trying my best to not falter in pain as I watched Colt shifted into his wolf. He was impossibly large. Maverick’s concentration was only on the foe he had to beat.
The wolf launched at Maverick. I held my breath as Maverick shifted into his black wolf. Dark as midnight. My heart ached.
The brown wolf hit the black wolf, knocking him to the ground as they fought. Snarling and growling. The black wolf was above the brown one. I held my breath. They were growling. Jaws snapping, sharp teeth bared. They moved so quickly, the colors blended into one.
Amy’s hand tightened around mine. A part of me wanted to block it out to deny the reality but the other part of me couldn’t look away, not for a second.
Then the brown werewolf was free and stood as darker one circled, ready to attack.
The large brown one roared as it launched into the hair. They tussled on the ground, too quick for me to see what was happening.
Again and Again.
Then I saw red.
The sight of blood made me gasp. I couldn’t tell where it was coming from. My whole world stopped in that moment, I could heart the beat of my heart so loud in my ears it blocked out everything else.
Fear laced every fibre of my being as I stood rooted to the spot in fear.
The fight slowed as one wolf lay still. I breathed. The black one had its jaws locked onto its throat. It was only when the light in the amber eyes began to fade did the black wolf release its hold to stand over the dead wolf.
Colt was dead. Maverick had won.
Releasing Amy’s hand I lowered myself to my knees. Too weak to stand any longer. My eyes watered as I took in the scene in front of me.
